Thyme
Thyme, also known as wild thyme and farigoul in Provence, originates from Mediterranean regions from western Europe to southern Italy. Its scientific name is Thymus Vulgaris and it belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The term "Thymus Vulgaris" comes from the Greek "thumon", meaning "offering". It was previously used for its pleasant scent when burned. The Ancient Greeks and Egyptians used it for various reasons. Thyme was introduced to Europe by the Romans, mainly for use in cosmetics. During the Crusades in the Middle Ages, thyme was a symbol of courage and lasting love. Nowadays, it is used mainly in Mediterranean cuisine and in many dishes originating from the four corners of the world.
