THE MATSUI - SINGLE MALT JAPANESE WHISKY MIZUNARA CASK

Today, Mizunara barrels make up less than 10% of all whisky stocks matured in Japan. Its intrinsic qualities and the aromas that it provides are prized by Japanese whisky enthusiasts for their unique character.

The Matsui - Mizunara Cask is a single malt distilled by the Kurayoshi distillery in Tottori prefecture. This whisky is matured in ‘Mizunara’ oak casks. ‘Mizunara’ wood is as famous for its rarity as it is for how difficult it is to transform into casks. This oak takes 200 to 300 years to fully mature, and offers exceptional, unique aromatic qualities. This variety of oak is only found in the forests of Hokkaido and the Tohuku region in northern Honshu. Mizunara offers a honeyed oakiness that envelops the whisky and provides an elegant lingering style specific to this type of ageing. This whisky is diluted with fresh water from the generous snowfall on the Mount Daisen massif. Maturation takes place in Tottori prefecture, where nature rules the roost and temperatures vary widely between seasons. The ‘angels’ share’ amounts to 3% evaporation from the barrel.
