Lionel Gosseaume
Region: Loir-et-Cher
Who are we
Situated in the heart of the Loire valley in the Touraine appellation, Domaine Lionel Gosseaume currently has 35 hectares of which 30 ha is Sauvignon Blanc, much of which is planted on the terroir of Oisly (the cradle of Sauvignon Blanc in Touraine and a new appellation in its own right since 2011). The vineyards are on the sandy soils of the Sologne, (with clay sub soils) particularly suited to the production of fruity wines. Lionel has the HVE Level 3 certification. HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) is a relatively recent certification that recognises a high level of commitment to protecting and enriching the environment. Specifically, it covers biodiversity, the use of products in the vineyard, the management of fertilisers and water management (he recuperates 22,000 litres of rainwater each year and is installing solar panels on his winery buildings). The domaine is committed to working sustainably and Lionel is constantly looking at ways in which he can reduce his carbon footprint. No anti-botrytis treatments or insecticides have been used for several years, and two thirds of the vineyard surface area is currently worked without the use of herbicides. There is the possibility of bottling our wines under screw-cap. Currently Lionel exports around 50% of his production notably in the USA, UK and Canada and is very keen to work with other markets.
