Who are we
NOUGAT DIANE DE POYTIERS, A FAMILY STORY... In 1920, Charlotte and Antonin Chambonnière, both history buffs, founded the Nougat Diane de Poytiers factory. Duchess of the Dauphinois in the 16th century, Diane de Poytiers was, according to legend, one of the ambassadors of nougat. A street and a 16th-century house still bear her name in Montélimar town centre. Thinking that she would be a great muse for their future nougat factory, Charlotte and Antonin decided to register her name as a trademark. Thus began the story of a family of artisan nougat-makers in Montélimar, which has endured for four generations. Today, Charlotte's grandson Frédéric Chambonnière and his son Théo Chambonniere and their team are carrying on the tradition. Their motto is to favour the use of local, authentic products like honey and almonds in order to better control the quality of the raw materials. OUR NOUGAT FACTORY TODAY Frédéric Chambonnière and Théo, the 3rd and 4th generation of artisan nougat makers, took over the family business. Over the years, they have built up a team of fifteen people who produce over 80 tonnes of Montélimar nougat every year. Their motto is to favour the use of local, authentic products such as honey and almonds in order to better control the quality of the raw materials. It's the way it's baked, the baking time, but also the human touch that makes the difference. Artisanal nougat is cooked in a copper cauldron for over two hours, and one person has to monitor the temperature at which the different ingredients are cooked. At Diane de Poytiers, even the packaging of the nougat is done by hand! Diane de Poytiers mainly produces Montélimar nougat, both soft and hard, but also has the secret of a few house specialities, such as praline nougat, organic nougat, caramel and Guérande salt nougat, lavender flower nougat and fig nougat. Discover the new range of Montélimar nougat spreads made with roasted almonds and our homemade nougat... of course without palm oil, a delight for young and old!
