WILLM ALSACE - WOLFBERGER
Who are we
In 1896 a restaurateur, Adolphe Willm, in the small town of Barr in the south of the Bas-Rhin in central Alsace, cultivated one of the main vineyards in the region. The Willm family would found, at the foot of the majestic Grand Cru Kirchberg de Barr, the Maison Willm. The vineyards today cover 55 hectares (135 acres) of which 7 hectares (17 acres) are Alsace Grand Cru parcels. The winery enjoys a worldwide reputation: 90% of its wines are for export. Sheltered by the Vosges mountains, with granite and clay-limestone soils, vines from Barr provide this important Maison wines that are fresh and precise, defined by finesse. The Willm team adheres to reasoned agriculture, searching for the best balance between soils, viticulture and climate while respecting the local biodiversity. This method allows them to create remarkably fruity wines that maintain their character in the bottle for optimum aging. Willm wines are dry, bold and sophisticated, well-structured and balanced. The varietals faithfully express their typicity. They are characterized by a subtle mix of freshness, elegance and finesse, where minerality predominates sweetness. These varietal wines admirably reflect their respective terroirs and marvelously synthesize the cooler climatology of the vineyards in and around Barr. In 2021 Maison Willm, building on 125 years of history and passion, has embarked on a new cultural approach initiated by a new generation of winegrowers. These young winegrowers have placed respect for the environment at the heart of their concerns and their cultivation practices to convert their plots of vines to organic farming.
