VIGNOBLES HERMOUET

Who are we

It is a five-generation family story, born from the hidden Bordeaux gem that is Fronsac At the confluence of the Isle and Dordogne rivers, on the right bank of Bordeaux, lies a vineyard that has been cultivated since the 18th century, and in the family since 1911. A secular legacy that we are sincerely committed to protect and develop with creativity, curiosity and the utmost respect – sustainability being at the very heart of our philosophy (Natural plant cover, mechanical working underfoot, High Environmental Value label, biodiversity hotspots scattered throughout the vineyard and covering ¼ of the estate’s total surface area). Located at the northernmost edge of the Fronsac region, the single-piece 50ha vineyard is composed of 45 neighbouring plots; 22ha of which fall under the Fronsac appellation, while the remaining 28ha claim the Bordeaux seal. Progressive acquisitions, as well as two waves of in-depth restructuring in the 90s’ and 2010s’ have enabled us to consistently develop our estate. It grows vines up to 50-year-old, all cautiously maintained according to a same quality guidance: high densities, selection of low-productivity rootstocks, carefully controlling vine vigour and promoting ultimate grape ripening. Fronsac’s is acclaimed for its clay-limestone soils, rolling countryside and altitude, making it an ideal destination for refined merlot-forward wines. Close to our roots, we naturally came to this rich and seducing grape variety which accounts for ¾ of Vignobles Hermouet’s planting. Besides, in a constant quest to accurately bridge today’s evolution with yesterday’s heritage, we have been re-planting three historical grape varieties over the past 10 years: Malbec, along with Sauvignon and Sémillon grapes which have forged Roc Meynard’s reputation in the 70s’. Our collection of wines is the result of a careful attention to the vineyard and its vivid environment. We cherish our keeping an eye on the outside, while living, and growing, at the very heart of the appellation. This enables us to remain faithful to ourselves, our experiences and our terroir, and to maintain a close relationship with the land, the vines and the winery. Our style strikes a signature balance between depth, freshness, precision and expressiveness. A common thread that runs through all our portfolio of contemporary yet timeless and widely recognized Bordeaux blends : our flagships, Clos du Roy (Fronsac), and Château Roc Meynard (Bordeaux Supérieur). But also our generous variations around our signature style: Château Lalande Mausse (Fronsac), and Château Brandeau (Bordeaux).
