DOMAINE FLORENCE ALQUIER

Who are we

Faugères is situated 25 km north of the town of Béziers in the foothills of the Cevennes and in the heart of the Haut Languedoc regional nature park. It is the only PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) in the Languedoc region which lies on a homogenous schist soil. . Known for its good water drainage properties, this soil helps the vines withstand the heat of the Mediterranean climat. The wine-producing area, which is interspersed with wild areas, is set in an exceptional landscape, comprising hills rising to heights of close to 400 m and valleys, covered by vineyards, brushland and small woods and interspersed by the dry stone buildings typical of the region. A perfect setting for a high-quality vineyard. Grape harvest and winemaking: The average age of our vines is 35 years and our oldest Carignan are from 1932. The yields are low, around 20hl per hectar. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand in small boxes and sorted before vatting. We started our AB certification process in 2017, so the 2020 vintage is AB certified. We also strive to keep the sulphit level as low as possible, with around 40mg/l for the red wines and 90mg/l for the white wines. We elaborate our vintages and the winemaking with the precious support of our consulting oenologist Claire Menneteau From Natoli. Our production capacity is more than 50.000 bottles per year.
