Who are we

Champagne Challiol & Charmetant was founded in 2018 when the Singhal family acquired their first vineyards in the Vallée de la Marne in Champagne, France and were registered by the Comite Champagne CIVC as the first Indian vignerons in the Champagne region. Founder, Rajiv Singhal, has worked in Champagne since 2006 as the representative of the Comite Champagne CIVC. In 2014, he was appointed Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Merite by President Hollande of the French Republic, in recognition of his significant pioneering role in developing the Champagne market in India. Rajiv was inducted into the Ordre des Coteaux de Champagne as Chevalier in 2012. And the tradition has continued within the family. In 2019, he was joined by his elder son, Suchet who was inducted as one of the youngest Chevaliers of the Ordre, and in 2023 by wife Ritu who was inducted as the first Dame Chevalier from India – making the Singhals “the most champenois of Indian families”. In 2023, the family released their first Champagne label – a Brut sans année that is classified as Récoltant Coopérateur. This cuvée is a blend of 60% Meunier, 15% Pinot Noir and 25% Chardonnay, which mirrors their vineyard holdings in Champagne. Aged for 5 years and finished with a 7g dosage, this Champagne is presented in magnums only. The closure is ‘ancienne’ rope and wax – no metal or foil. Younger son, Udit who was recognised as one of 17 United Nations Young Leaders for the SDGs in 2020, is responsible for this sustainable initiative. Challiol & Charmetant respects tradition and weaves a unique connection between Champagne, Calcutta India, and the British Royals. The label dates to the 19th Century when it was selected to be presented at the Calcutta International Exhibition in 1883 in honour of H. M. Queen Victoria. In the Summer of 2023, magnums of Champagne Challiol & Charmetant were positioned in the UK market. With endorsements and approvals from many sommeliers, Champagne Challiol & Charmetant has been listed at very prestigious luxury properties including Annabel’s private members club, the three Michelin star restaurant at the Connaught, Raffles at the OWO, Corinthia, 67 Pall Mall and Hide. Hedonism, the world-renowned wine store in Mayfair and the online cellar door have been serving the retail patrons.
