October 29th 2024

The Board of Directors of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) met on October 2nd and 3rd at the Maison du Sport Français. Highlights of Paris 2024 Olympics

The summer was exceptional for French sports. Astrid Guyart, CNOSF Secretary General, highlighted the historic performances of French athletes and the unprecedented support systems in place. With 64 medals (16 gold, 26 silver, 22 bronze) won at home, the French Olympic delegation achieved its goal of ranking in the top 5 nations. CNOSF President David Lappartient aims to maintain this level of excellence for future Olympic events.

On the organizational front, the CNOSF successfully mobilized its members, promoting sports activities to the public at Club France in Parc de la Villette. Nathalie Péchalat, Deputy President of Club France, reported over 600,000 visitors during the Olympic fortnight, underscoring the success of this initiative. The Board applauded the commitment of all CNOSF collaborators in the success of the Paris 2024 projects.

Looking Ahead: Legacy and Future Events

The Board discussed the launch of the National Sports Agency's (ANS) commission, chaired by Gilles Erb, focusing on the educational legacy of the Games. The CNOSF will mobilize unprecedented financial and human resources starting in 2025, particularly during the Olympic and Paralympic Week (SOP).

Winter Olympics 2030 in the French Alps

On October 2, 2024, Prime Minister Michel Barnier sent a financial guarantee letter to IOC President Thomas Bach, a requirement for the 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps. CNOSF President David Lappartient thanked the Prime Minister and state services for their support throughout the candidacy. The French Alps 2030 organizing committee is now being formed, with strong backing from President Emmanuel Macron and regional authorities.
