Why organic wines from France are captivating the world
June 22th 2024
The 2023 report by Agence BIO highlights a remarkable trend in France's organic wine sector, showcasing its resilience and growing appeal in a challenging market for organic products. Retail sales of organic wines soared to €1.35 billion, representing a significant 9% increase compared to previous years. This contrasts with a slight 2% decline in value for other organic alcoholic beverages, which totaled €87 million.
Direct sales are leading the way in the organic wine market, capturing 50% of the market share and generating €673 million in revenue. This segment is well ahead of wine cellars and specialty food stores, which account for 25.6% of the market with €343 million in sales. Supermarkets hold a 16.1% market share, contributing €217 million, while specialized organic retailers capture 8.2%, equating to €111 million in sales.
The standout performance of organic wines reflects a growing consumer preference for sustainable and high-quality products. For B2B buyers, this presents a unique opportunity to tap into a segment that not only shows strong growth but also aligns with global trends towards sustainability and health consciousness. The resilience of the organic wine market, despite broader challenges in the organic food sector, underscores its potential as a key driver in expanding product portfolios and meeting the evolving demands of consumers.
