Les Grandes Bastides 2012 - Domaine Bardi d'Alquier

The cuvée « Les Grandes Bastides d'Alquier » is the most exceptional wine of the domain. Harvested during the remarkable vintages of our terroir such as 2012, they give an even more careful attention to this cuvée to reach excellency : several night-harvest at great maturity, selection of the finest berries , cold maturation, long vatting period... All necessary moves for an exceptionnal balanced and elegant wine for a limited production. (Old syrah, grenache and Mourvèdre) Aging : 24 months in burgundy barrels, new for half of it. Nose : Intense and complex, on aromas of black candied fruits (cherry sour cherry, blackberry), spices, garrigue (Cyst and laurel leaves), orange peel, menthol and leather. Mouth: Deep, precise and frank, a generous character on a juicy fruit, a great balance between power and sweetness, smooth tannins, a persistant and tastefull finish.

Terroir: 350m altitude, top of the hills south facing, hard schists. Yield : Under 20 hL/ha, the grapes are left on the plant and their ripeness pushed for a few additional days, selection of the best berries, long maceration.

Grape variety: Old vines of Syrah, Grenache  and Mourvèdre.

Winemaking: Partial destemming, cold maceration, long vatting period. Aged 24 months in burgundy barrels  (50% new).

Tasting: Intense and complex, on aromas of black candied fruits (cherry, blackberry), spices, garrigue (Cyst and laurel leaves), orange peel, menthol and leather.
