Clos la Gaffelière 2020
Château La Gaffelière has belonged to the Malet-Roquefort family, the oldest owners in Saint-Emilion, for four centuries. Alexandre de Malet manages the estate. The 33-ha single vineyard, planted with 80% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, is situated on a magnificent clay-limestone hillside, with more silica at the foot of the slope. Its southerly exposure means that the grapes benefit from plenty of sunshine, ensuring ideal ripeness. Château La Gaffelière has been monitored by Stéphane Derenoncourt's winemaking team for several years. Created in 1985, Clos La Gaffelière is the second wine of Château La Gaffelière. Since the 2020 vintage, Clos La Gaffelière has been a label in its own name, with its own vat room and cellar. Vinification by parcel in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Alcoholic fermentation with pumping over. Malolactic fermentation in vats. The blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc aged for 12 months in one-wine barrels and 25% in new barrels.
