Château Les Remparts 2016
Château Les Remparts was built in 1790 and acquired by the Berthomieu family in 1834. Monsieur Berthomieu gave the château as a dowry when his daughter married Louis Lavau. Their son founded the oldest négociant firm in Saint Emilion. Dynamic and enterprising, he expanded the vineyard and distributed his wines via a trading firm in Brussels. The wines won several medals at universal exhibitions in the early 20th century. The Second World War and inheritance issues meant that the négociant activity went into a dormant stage. The current manager of Château Les Remparts represents the sixth generation of the same family at the head of the estate. Located east of Saint Emilion, on a continuation of the slope and just one and a half km from the walls of the medieval town, the vines draw their richness from clay-limestone soil with a rocky subsoil.
