Château Grandefont La Gabarde
Bordeaux ORIGIN - TERROIR The vineyards at Château Grandefont now cover 45 hectares of vines situated on the left bank of the Dordogne river, in Saint-Avit-Saint-Nazaire. The domaine was formerly planted with fruit trees before gradually being replanted with vines in the 1960’s. The vineyards lie on the former river bed and benefit from particularly gravelly soils and a unique microclimate owing to their proximity to the river. The name signifies "large fountain” and the domaine was previously used as a stopover point for boatsmen transporting wine up the river towards Bordeaux. CULTIVATION Sustainable methods Soil tillage and grassing of alternate rows Manual pruning VINIFICATION Controlled yields Selection of the domaine's oldest vine parcels Vinification in temperature controlled stainless steel vats Oak ageing GRAPE VARIETIES 80% Merlot 20% Cabernet Sauvignon TASTING NOTES Château Grandefont La Gabare offers a dark red colour and garnet core. The elegant and aromatic nose combines notes of ripe red fruits, vanilla and spice. The palate is rich, fruity and balanced out by a pleasant freshness. The warm and direct tannins reinforce the seductive character of this exceptional Bordeaux. FOOD & WINE PAIRING Château Grandefont La Gabare makes an excellent choice for a starter of snails in garlic butter. It also works well with a shepherd’s pie, enchiladas or a cassoulet followed by a slice of camembert to finish. Enjoy served at 18°C.
