Château Freyneau - Le Second
Soil : The 35 years old vines are planted on a clay limestone soil, on a hillside, which gives the berries their maturity.
Vineyard area : 7ha.
Vine yield : 36hecto/hectare.
Vine growing : The planting density is about 4500 plant per hectare, we work our soils mechanically and practice reasoned agriculture on the property since 1990. We do a short pruning in order to reduce our yields and obtain the best quality for our berries.
Winemaking : The harvest is done mechanically, then we use a sorting table at the winery and temperature control to follow. We realize a long maceration of 8 weeks to produce colorful wines focused on flavours. The wine is then aged in vats for a period of 18 months before bottling.
Tasting : Beautiful garnet colors with a touch of rose petal hue.
Expressive and intense perfume. With lots of berries like blackcurrant, raspberry and blueberry, all of which are combined with elegantly understated oak notes.
The palate is dry but soft. Moderate and elegant sense of alcohol. The tannins are beautifully fine, but it still has a wonderful flame, followed by quality acidity and stony minerality. Not too dense, this is an elegant and fascinating classic Bordeaux.
