Château Feytit Clinet 2017
This 6.68-ha vineyard is situated between Trotanoy above and Latour at Pomerol across the road in the lower Clinet sector of the Pomerol appellation. Planted at 7,150 vines/ha, the encépagement includes 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc whose average age is 34 years. Gravel rich and sandy-gravelly soils. Serious vineyard management including debudding, deleafing on the east side, desuckering, crop thinning, and green harvest (twice), are the rule. The berries were hand-harvested in september. Yields in 2017 were 40 hls/ha before, and 32 hls/ha after selection and saignée. Berries underwent a 4-day cold soak at 10 °C, followed a 25-day maceration in cement tanks with an alternating mix of pigeages and remontages. Malolactic took place in barrels with four months spent on the lees and these were stirred for the first two months. Aging for 16 months in 65% new French oak and 35% in second fill barrels with a mix of Demptos (30%), Cadus (30%), Taransaud (20%), Seguin-Moreau (15%), and Remond (5%). The blend is 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. 16,000 bottles of grand vin were produced.
