Château Carcanieux - Medoc Cru Bourgeois
Enclosed in a peninsula north of Bordeaux, the Médoc vineyards occupy a special place.
Running along the Gironde River for more than 80 kilometers, the region offers a wide variety of horizons, as well as a great diversity of soils.
These different soils make the richness of the Médoc where each property offers its own characteristics, thus leaving the lover of great wines an infinite range of pleasures, as much visual, as olfactory, gustatory and even tactile.
Château Carcanieux has existed since 1850. It is mentioned in the magazine "Bordeaux and its wines" by Cocks and Féret since 1868.
It covers an area of 40 hectares grouped around the castle. Located on a hillock in the commune of Queyrac called "Terres Hautes de Carcanieux", its soil is particularly gravelly. Pebbles are omnipresent around the château, which explains the name engraved on its pediment: "Carcanieux Les Graves".
The vineyard is composed of vines mainly planted in the 70s and which are renewed according to an intensive replanting program. The vineyard is composed of 45% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, with a reasoned work of the vine, green harvesting to limit the yields and a thinning out of the leaves to enjoy the sun at best.
It is said that the Lord of "Quarquanyus", descendant of Jean de Comps and vassal of the Count of Lesparre, refused to surrender on September 17, 1445 to the call of the seneschal of Guyenne, who was recruiting supporters for the King of France. As a supporter of the English, after Talbot's defeat, the castle was put under the king's control and all operations were forbidden.
Whether the seizure was momentary or definitive, history has kept this secret...
The vineyard belongs to Vignobles de Terroirs since 2009.
