Berligou - Méthode Traditionnelle

Freshness, elegance, harmony aromatic. A fresh attack on the red fruit.

Wine called "privileges" served at the Court of Brittany, and of France, this grape was the proud of the Dukes, Princes and Kings. Oered in 1460 by Charles le Téméraire, Duke of Burgundy, to François II, Duke of Brittany, it was planted on its two properties at La Chabossière in Couëron, and close to the Castle of Guérande. His daughter Anne de Bretagne demanded her Berligou wine on its castles of Langeais, Blois, Orléans, while she was Queen of France.

In 1598, during the “Edit de Nantes”, Henri IV will exclaim while tasting it "Hell, how good it is! Belly Saint Gray, the Dukes of Brittany were no little companions. » In 1661, during the Assembly of Brittany in Nantes, Louis XIV will make the same observation and will serve it at the Louvre as well as at Versailles.

The French Revolution will see the property of Couëron devastated by wars between revolutionaries and Chouans (royalists). In 1930, the Count of Camiran, winemaker, and Joseph Picot, nurseryman, go to La Chabossière and find a huge bramble tree where the Berligou vineyard runs. Therefore, it will be preserved until today, at La Bourchinière in St-Fiacre.

In 2003, the grape variety was identified by the experts as a grape variety rare and untraceable elsewhere (IN THE WORLD!). Replanted in 2007 at La Chabossière for 170 vinestocks, it will be vinified by Alain Poulard of the Technical Institute of Wine. In white, red, rosé and sparkling wine, these firsts vinifications reveal very noble wines. Based on this observation, in 2011, we are authorized to replant 1.5 hectares in the remarkable terroir of Cru Château-Thébaud.
In 2014, we will reap this exceptional red fruit, great flavor. In May 2016 was released the first cuvée ...
