Who are we

In the MULLER family, growing cabbages and producing sauerkraut has been a tradition for five generations. Based in Meistratzheim, between Strasbourg and Colmar, at the heart of the region renowned for this iconic Alsatian speciality, the family business was founded by Charles RIEFFEL in the late 1960s to meet growing demand. It is now run by his grandson Sébastien Muller, who has been immersed in Alsatian sauerkraut since his earliest childhood.

The company has never stopped reaching new milestones; what a long way we’ve come since the days when the MULLER family’s ancestors began growing cabbages and ensuring their natural fermentation in five vats at the back of their house! To meet our customers’ demand, we developed recipes for cooked Alsatian sauerkraut in the early 1980s. In the 2010s, we expanded the horizons of Alsatian sauerkraut with our own creations (Sauerkraut Confit, Cooked Sauerkraut and Spaetzle Pasta chouc’, Sauerkraut Summer Salad, etc.) and broadened our range to include other vegetables.

Today, 5,000 tonnes of sauerkraut are processed each year and shipped throughout France, across Europe and even to the United States. LE PIC’s excellent reputation for expertise is nothing new! Having won an award as early as 1988 in a national competition at SIAL (the International Food Exhibition), its vacuum-packed ‘Special Catering’ Alsatian sauerkraut was also voted Flavour of the Year in 2007. More recently, we have been awarded a PGI (Protected Geographical Indication), for which we have been actively campaigning for many years; Sébastien MULLER is, in fact, the president of the organisation responsible for promoting and managing this quality label (Association for the Promotion of Alsatian Sauerkraut). We also offer organic, kosher, and pork-free and alcohol-free sauerkraut under our two brands, LE PIC and FRANK.
