Who are we

Localised in the heart of Grande Champagne, the premier cru of the Cognac region, Domaine Landreau spans 25 hectares in Criteuil-la-Magdeleine, Charente. The estate’s vineyards, primarily planted with Ugni Blanc, thrive on a distinctive clay-limestone terroir. Historically, the domaine has also cultivated Folle Blanche and Colombard, grape varieties still used today in some of its most exceptional cuvées. Founded by Pierre Landreau, a miller and flour merchant, the estate has remained in the hands of the same family ever since. The first vines were acquired in 1859, marking the beginning of the vineyard’s legacy. Pierre’s son survived the phylloxera crisis by maintaining two hectares of vines and developing distillation. During the Second World War, Émile expanded the vineyard to 15 hectares. Paul, his son, introduced modernisation by purchasing the estate’s first tractor and building the still that is still in use today. In the 1980s, Daniel overcame the wine crisis by developing direct bottle sales and structuring the estate for diversification. Since 2012, Thomas, the sixth generation of the family, has carried on the estate’s legacy while introducing modern practices. Under his leadership, the vineyard has adopted mechanical harvesting and digitized its distillation process. His son Noa is already working on the estate, ensuring the continuity of this family heritage. Certified HVE Level 3 (High Environmental Value), the domaine practices sustainable agriculture, with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship: natural fertilizers, beehives, rainwater collection, and limited use of phytosanitary products. Distillation is adapted according to needs, using both on-lees and off-lees methods. Landreau Cognacs embody the history and craftsmanship passed down through generations. Today, we are proud to present the cask-strength Cognac crafted by Émile—a century-old spirit with remarkably preserved aromas. The legacy of Paul and Daniel lives on in our most exceptional cuvées, including “L’Âge d’Or”, “XXO”, and “XO”. As for Thomas’s creations, they are expressed through our “VSOP” and “VS” ranges.
