DOMAINE DE JOY

Who are we

The story of the Gessler family began in 1927, when Paul and Marguerite decided to leave their birthplace in Switzerland to settle in Gascony. In 1946, Paul Gessler’s second son André and his wife Véronique joined the family business. The size of the estate had grown to about 50 acres as André planted new vines. The chosen grape varieties were new to the area (Colombard and Gros Manseng). Today, the fourth generation of winemaking Gesslers are taking over the reins. Our estate boasts 400 beautiful acres (170 hectares) and the average age of our vines is 25 years old. White wine grapes make up the largest part of our vines. Colombard, Ugni-Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay are planted on the south-facing hillsides around the estate. Our Manseng (Gros and Petit) vines prefer the clay-siliceous soils of Western Gascony. The beautiful acidity of these grape varieties matches with their natural sweetness to create a refreshing balance. It is important to us to preserve the beauty and diversity of our surroundings. That is why our estate operations have been certified as “Responsible Farming” for more than 15 years. As winemakers, we proudly create authentic products that are well-structured and complex. Our main objective is to offer festive, fruity and easy-to-drink wines. We hope that both wine novices and experienced wine enthusiasts will associate the name Joÿ with happiness and pleasure.
