Château Mondésir
Midway between Bordeaux and Périgueux, around twenty kilometres from Saint Emilion and 8 kilometres from Château de Montaigne, Château Mondésir used to be owned by the great-granddaughter of Michel de Montaigne, author of “Les Essais”.
The manor was built in the 17th century on the site of a medieval fortress, of which four towers remain today, and which used to be a lookout post for the “English” fortified town of Villefranche de Lonchat, founded by Edward 1st of England in around 1285.
